We save Toby's life almost every day, though less often now then months ago. I was thinking back at all the memorable times we saved his life in the past couple of years.
- He decided to safety test his swing when he was 2 1/2 months. He managed to lean forward and to the side and get his head caught between the two a-line bars on the side. I found him with his head bonking back in forth against the bars as he swung. Funny, we found out later that day the swing was recalled - hmmm... wonder why...
- "Electrical chords are not chew toys!"
- Followed equally by, "Don't put that penny in the outlet!"
- Swimming in Grandma's pool at 1 yr, he got a little excited and pulled away from me and took a 2 second dunk before I pulled him up.
- The park has a 2 story high platform at the top of a slide, and he wanted to jump one day. We talked him out of it.
- = ("No running into the street!" X 1 Million)
- Kitchen hazzards are an issue. Why does he want to play next to pots of boiling water?
- Calmly... "Toby, put the pearing knife down"... followed 3 seconds later by "Toby put the butcher knife down". (Julie, I think we handled that well, don't you?)
- "Don't take that dog's food from him!" Dogs somehow aren't intimidating enough.
- Someday, we know he'll stop running with his head down. Until then, we still have to warn him when a wall is coming.
If you remember more ways that Toby's life has been saved, please feel free to add it in a comment to this post. We'll celebrate every year with relief.
